MBA Preparation Tests

Now that you have decided that you want to pursue a Master's in Business Administration, or MBA, the next thing on your agenda should be gaining admission to a good school. Read on to learn about the basic MBA admission tests you need to take before applying to your list of schools.
The Graduate Management Admission Test (GMAT)
The GMAT is a prerequisite for nearly every reputable MBA program. A standardized test similar to the SAT or GRE, it tests your readiness to engage in graduate study in the field of business administration. It includes math, analytical problems and a test of verbal skills. Getting ready for the GMAT through personal study or a preparation course is a vital part of MBA admissions.
The Test Of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL)
While not every applicant will need to submit TOEFL scores, if your first language is not English and you are applying to an English-language program, plan on taking the TOEFL. This test of English competency proves to the school that you are capable of doing academic work at an advanced level in English, even though it is not your mother tongue.
MBA admissions essay
Nearly every school of business administration will ask you to submit an essay with your application. Although the length and subject matter required may vary, even a short essay can have a strong influence on whether or not you are accepted to an MBA program. Check and double check your spelling and grammar and ensure that your essay flows well and directly addresses the assigned topic. Your goal with this essay is to show the school's admission officer that you can clearly and effectively communicate facts and ideas.
Applying for an MBA can seem daunting, though it does not have to be. If you perform well on your application essay, the GMAT and the TOEFL if required, you just may end up with your pick of several schools.
